Episode 1: Getting to Know Your Tools and Supplies

In the first episode, we cover the must-have tools for any beginner sewist. From your sewing machine to rotary cutters, quilting rulers, and cutting mats, we break down how each tool works and why it's essential. If you're new to sewing, this episode provides the foundation you need to get started. You'll also learn some tips on fabric care and discover the best pressing surfaces, such as the wool pressing mat and the multi-functional June Tailor Cut N’ Press II​.

Episode 2: Fabrics – Choosing and Preparing

In Episode 2, we explore the world of fabrics, discussing the differences between natural and synthetic fibers. Understanding fabric properties is crucial for selecting the right material for your projects. We’ll show you how to identify the lengthwise and crosswise grain, prepare fabrics for cutting and introduce you to common pre-cut bundles like fat quarters and jelly rolls. By the end, you'll know how to care for your fabric and ensure it's ready for cutting​.

Episode 3: How to Cut Your Fabrics

Now that your fabrics are prepared, it’s time to cut! Episode 3 focuses on the cutting process. We demonstrate how to use a rotary cutter, mat and quilting ruler to make precise cuts. You'll also learn about “finished size” and how seam allowances are factored into patterns. For those using the GO! Fabric Cutting System, this episode highlights how to use dies for accurate cuts, making the process faster and easier​.

Episode 4: Understanding Your Sewing Machine

In this episode, we guide you through the basic parts and functions of a sewing machine. You’ll learn how to wind a bobbin, thread your machine and troubleshoot common issues. This episode is perfect for beginners who need to feel more comfortable with their machines before diving into a project. Stay tuned as we prepare to sew in the next episode!

Episode 5: Your First Stitches

It’s time to sew! Episode 5 walks you through setting up your sewing machine and making your first stitches. We start with practice lines on scrap fabric, showing you how to guide fabric under the presser foot. Then, we move on to sewing your first seam using a ¼" seam allowance. You’ll get hands-on experience piecing two fabric strips together and pressing seams for a neat finish​.

Episode 6: Finishing Your First Project – Quilt-As-You-Go Mug Mats

In the final episode, we tackle a beginner-friendly project: the June Tailor 2-½” Strip Mug Mat Quilt-As-You-Go Kit. You’ll sew and quilt three mug mats simultaneously using a self-binding technique. We demonstrate piecing, quilting and binding your project all in one go. By the end, you’ll have completed your first sewing project, and hopefully, the confidence to continue your sewing journey​!
