Hi, it's Bea again from beaquilter.com. I'm here to show you how I made this "Leaping for Joy" quilt using the GO! Leaping Frog Limited Edition Anniversary die and the 12" Mix and Match QUBE set!
I also used the 3½" strip cutter die, and because it's appliqué, I used Steam-A-Seam Lite too. I machine embroidered the frogs, but you can just as easily appliqué stitch around it if you don't have an embroidery machine.
The finished quilt measures 42" x 42".
Fabric:
¾ yd light green
¾ yd dark green
¼ yd bright yellow
¾ yd pale yellow
batting 45" x 45"
backing 48" x 48"
binding ½ yd
I had it sketched out in EQ8 first.
Here's how I made it:
With die #4, I cut out 24 triangles in light and dark green and 16 in yellow.
With die #1, I cut out 8 squares in light and dark green and 4 in pale yellow.
Then, with dark green I cut (4) 5" x 5½" pieces and added Steam-A-Seam Lite to the back and cut out 4 frogs with the GO! Leaping Frog die.
Since I have an embroidery machine, I started preparing the center pale yellow square for the appliqué. I ironed a stabilizer onto the back and marked center points on it with a FriXion pen.
Then, I did the same with a stabilizer in the hoop,
and putting pins upright on the fabric and matching up inside the hoop, it's perfectly centered. I then spray basted in place and removed the pins.
Then, I stitched out the frog with the free file and it looks like this.
Now onto the sewing! I laid out the #4 pieces, and there's (2) sets of (4) opposites. 8 of each shown below. Iron the seams open!
Then sewed them together like this. (8) of each set.
Then I sewed the ohio star blocks together in rows first with the frog block in the center.
And then finished the blocks like this.
After sewing these blocks together, I added 3½" pale yellow strips to finish the top like this.
I cut (5) binding strips in dark green and then quilted it in pale yellow.
A fun and quick quilt to make! Great for a little boy or as a wall hanging. :)
