Serendipity Flower Basket Mini Quilt

Hi everyone, it is Connie from Freemotion by the River and today I have a fast and easy mini quilt made with the AccuQuilt GO! 

Serendipity Flower Basket Mini Quilt

Finished size: 10" x 12"

GO! Fabric Cutter:

GO! Baby Fabric Cutter (55600)   GO! Fabric Cutter (55100S) or GO! Big Electric Fabric Cutter (55500)

GO! Cutting Dies:

GO! Qube Specialty Set - Serendipity by Edyta Sitar

GO! 2 ½” Strip Cutter #55017

Materials Needed:

  • 11 - 10" cream batik squares in various prints
  • Scraps of green batiks for the leaves
  • Scraps of brown for the basket
  • Scraps of purple and pink for flowers
  • 1/4 yard cream batik for binding
  • One fat quarter for the backing
  • Batting
  • 1/4 yard Fusible Web

NOTE: Apply fusible web to the wrong side of the fabrics following manufacturer’s instructions before cutting appliqué shapes.

 

Cutting the blocks:

I had a batik layer cake from Island Batik that I thought would make a perfect background for my mini quilt.

Take a 10 inch square and fold it in half, then fold in half again.

Place over the top of the #55749 Square die. You will cut four - 2 13/16" squares at a time.

Cut 42 - squares in assorted creams.

Use a 1/4" seam allowance and sew 7 rows of 6 blocks.

Next cut out one basket using the #55746 Basket die.

It is always nice to have helpers when cutting out the accents and flowers. My granddaughters always enjoy coming over and helping me with AccuQuilt projects. I cut some 5 inch strips of batiks and added fusible webbing to them so the girls could cut out the flowers. They always enjoy spending time in my new quilt studio. Sometimes it is hard to get them to stop! I have enough flowers and leaves for my next project....or two!

I used 4 different dies to make my Specialty Flower Basket Mini Quilt, there are 4 more dies included in the set!

I used the little heart that was on #55744 Flower Shapes to create my flowers.

 

Appliquing the Specialty Flower Basket mini quilt


  • Appliqué as desired, I did a free motion appliqué using my vintage Singer sewing machine, I placed a page from a telephone book behind the mini quilt top for stabilization and then tore it off afterwards.
  • Add your batting and backing and quilt as desired.
  • Using the GO! 2 ½” Strip Cutter #55017 - cut two strips the width of the fabric.
  • Sew these together and add your binding.
