Introducing the New GO! Small Strip Cutter 2½” (2” Finished) Die

Have you heard the big news? AccuQuilt’s number one die just got…smaller! Yes, smaller! Whatever can that mean? Meet the new GO! Small Strip Cutter 2½” (2” Finished).

The full-size GO! Strip Cutter 2½” (2” Finished) has been a top seller ever since it was introduced. It cuts 3 strips across the die that are perfect every single time, and since you can cut up to 6 layers of quilting cotton, that means you can cut a queen size binding for a quilt in just one pass through a GO! or GO! Big Fabric Cutter. AccuQuilt later released a narrower version to work with the GO! Me that will cut 2 width of fabric strips, or up to a total of 6.

The 24” long die boards are the very best solution for cutting full width of fabric strips, for making short work of cutting bias binding or for making lots and lots of 2½” squares, but it can be a little awkward to pack up and take with you to classes, retreats and on vacations. For taking your projects with you or for smaller size cutting jobs, the new GO! Small Strip Cutter 2½” (2” Finished) is just the die for the job!

Let's Get Scrappy

This new, smaller size strip die is perfect for making “short” work of your scraps. Many quilters will cut their scraps into 2½” strips and squares, and this die’s smaller size makes it simple. Those strips and squares can be set aside for future projects, like scrappy four patches, or put them to work right away as leaders and enters (what you start or end your chain piecing with for ease of starting).

Personally, I’ve had a lot of fun using this die to help me turn some charm squares into placemats! I love picking up those cute bundles of 5” pre-cut squares of fabric lines that I really love, but then I’m always left trying to figure out how to use them! I have to say that with this die, it’s a snap.

  1. Line up stacks of 6 squares, top with mat and cut.
  2. Sew the newly cut 2½” x 5” rectanges together in pairs.
  3. Lay your sewn sets onto the die, cover with a mat and cut again.
  4. Press to the dark side so center point will nest.
  5. Flip one set, line up center point and sew.
  6. Voila – a perfect four patch that now measures 4½” x 4½” and will finish at 4” x 4”.

For even more fun, take some of the 5” x 5” squares and use a GO! Square 4½” (4” finished) Die to cut them down to alternate with those four patches.

Those 5” squares aren’t the only pre-cut size that will play well with this die, either! You can cut 2½” strips to 2½” squares, or cut down 10” squares. Note, to get true cuts with this die and the layer cake squares, you will line your fabric along one blade and cut 2 strips, then shift the fabric over to line up the cut edge with the blade. This will make sure you get 4 equal 2½” x 10” strips.

Just look at this clever project created by Jennifer Strauser of Dizzy Quilter for AccuQuilt! The nested Maple Leaf Blocks are created using the GO! Qube System and perfectly highlighted by the sashing created using the GO! Small Strip Cutter 2½” (2” finished) die. I love everything about this quilt, but especially the leaf-in-a-leaf design. This project is perfect for putting fall fabric scraps or fat quarters to good use to create a stunning quilt to signal the start of fall.
